REWILD the City

City of Ghent - an European Urban Initiative Innovative Action (2025-2028)

The City of Ghent is developing new ways to reverse soil sealing and bring biodiversity back into urban life. REWILD focuses on unlocking sealed surfaces in streets, schoolyards and company sites, showing how citizens, businesses and local authorities can work together to make space for nature. The project demonstrates how rewilding can become part of everyday decision-making, shaping a city that is healthier, more climate resilient and connected to its ecological foundations.
